The record is an accomplishment that I'd never thought I'd have. I thought about it midway through the game, but the record doesn't mean as much as winning a state championship.

Record wise, I knew we would have a winning record coming into this season, but I figured maybe we'd finish around 14-8. We had good kids, seven with experience, but we did much better than I thought we would. We did great, a lot better than expected. I certainly can't complain.

You don't play to win the division, you play to win the championship ring. We didn't get it last year. How many Central Division titles does this team have? We don't care about that. It doesn't matter what kind of record we have. Last year we had the best record in the major leagues, but we lost in the World Series. Nobody's talking about (the record). Everybody talks about the world champions. You concentrate on getting back there and winning.

The season looks a lot better. You have a championship in your hand, a winning record, you're not .500, and we got a lot of things accomplished despite our record. It gives a lot of young guys the sight of confidence. They were all here. They saw us win a championship. They know that in big games, big players step up. Hopefully, we can carry some of that momentum into next season.

I've never really thought about any individual records, ... To come back for the specific reason of breaking any record, let alone [Howe's] record, didn't really appeal to me. Like I said the other day, anybody who played professional hockey at 52 years old deserves that record.

Mark Messier (1961-)

The record wasn't in my thought process at all. All I was focused on was winning the game. I'm glad it's over so the team can get back to focusing on continuing to improve.

Actually, that was on my mind. After the New Orleans game they told me that I tied the record. When I went up to the line, I thought about that and tried to take some extra time, really concentrate hard and I got it. We never really play for individual records, but with this franchise there were a lot of great shooters and it's an honor to have that record and hopefully I can keep going.

Any form of a winning record in the conference is an accomplishment.

We kicked around what we were going to do. But the more we thought about it, with his record of success, we knew it would be a good situation, and their record bore that out.

When (Robinson) set that record, I thought there was no way you can do it faster. I was like, 'That's the fastest you can do it.' ... When Ricky set the record in 6.3, I was just in awe.

We have a lot of firsts this year. We hadn't won a road game in several years and we won three. We hadn't had a winning record in a few years and now we have a winning record. I think we've built a foundation and now have to put the sides up. We just have to keep moving. I feel great about our kids and where we're going.

It's definitely more than just winning at Rupp Arena. You have to look at the big picture. The record doesn't really mean anything to us right now. We're all about getting a ring and a championship. It's prestigious to beat Kentucky, but we're not here to just beat one team.

I feel great about the season. Record-wise, that's the best record I've been a part of as a team goes. To have that kind of record was great ? and a region championship.

We are a party that is moving forward on a record of accomplishment, a record of results.

I never thought that we would ever be able to win one championship much less seven, ... (Katona) was a legend. To think that we beat his record is very, very special. I'm very humbled by the experience. It's a pretty neat deal.
