The Supreme Court of the United States has not, at least for 100 years and maybe going back further, ever stepped in to change the results of a national election by substituting its judgment as to how votes ought to be counted for the judgment of local election officials,

From the beginning we've said we are going to respect the rule of law. If the Supreme Court of the United States says no more votes will be counted, then that's the end of it,

These votes are going to be counted in Florida. If they're not counted now, they are going to be counted next year under Freedom of Information Act lawsuits, ... If the truth comes out next year that in fact Al Gore did win Florida ... what is that going to do for the esteem and the respect of the Supreme Court of the United States?

This is important to democracy, because if voters can't trust that their votes are being counted and election officials don't have a paper record that they can go back and review during recounts, then we're lost.

On behalf of every United States' citizens rights to a fair and open election, we are filing a lawsuit in federal court today charging our government, through their federal election commission, with interfering and tilting the election in favor of the Republicans and Democrats.

The United States does not accept the results of the election. The election campaign was conducted in a climate of fear. It included arrests and beatings and fraud.

The votes have been counted twice if not more. It's a misrepresentation. He wanted a hand count, now he wants a court count. So now he wants this election decided in court.

This really is no more than Arab-phobia. For these politicians, the national interest of the United States is synonymous with their next election. They're not thinking this is a real threat. It's an election year, it's an Arab country, and there's a post-9/11 insecurity they can exploit. It's a lethal brew, and they're stirring it for all it's worth.

I ask you to help ensure an election season which is positive, open and vigorous about the real and honest differences, but devoid of the poison that has too often clouded the judgment of everyone involved in the public process, ... I think we can have that kind of election, and it would be good for America.
