We want to make sure the company and the (Public Utilities) Commission focuses on what we think is a potentially very difficult challenge for the small business community. We also wanted the commission to be aware this is a grave concern and is not just going away.

It seems to me (that) the governor, the Legislature, the Public Service Commission, the Department of Commerce and the Division of Public Utilities are way too eager to look out for the interests of the utilities and their stockholders and not nearly interested enough in looking out for the interests of the small customers, ... There's a whole bunch of big customers that they would rather look out for than for you and me.

It appears the city's involvement would be necessary to pursue the public utilities application through the Public Utilities Commission.

Why pay someone else a commission on the services you use when that commission could be paid directly to you each and every month? It only makes sense. Just invite your friends and neighbors, co-workers, and everyone you meet to do the same thing. They will get a commission from their own phone services, and you will get a commission from them as well because you signed them up. Everyone wins with this free business opportunity. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness.

The commission may direct (staff) to explain alternatives to the public and that's certainly the commission's prerogative. But the whole concept (of) our form of government is that the elected officials, who don't have to be experts, represent the public and make the policy decisions.

Utilities have a legal responsibility, not to mention a moral one, to ensure that their customers receive reliable service at the least possible cost, ... It's the commission's job to make sure that happens. It's a matter of having the proper incentives, both carrots and sticks, to make sure utilities do the best they can for their customers and have a fair opportunity to earn a profit.

The real issue is not if a crossing is put in, but when. It would be negligent on the part of Union Pacific and the California Public Utilities Commission to not address the problem.
