It's a little frightening what's happening in Pickens County. Pickens County relies on the textile industry probably more than the surrounding counties as far as per capita employment, and as the economy adjusts to the China trade issues, it affects us here in Pickens County more than most.

I can tell you right now, in my opinion, Pickens County gets a big F when it comes to their transportation needs and what they've done. There's no question it's going to get worse.

This is our second time to beat a number one seed. We did it against Pickens (in the Region 7-AAA tournament) just to get here, and now we did it in Franklin County.

I feel that he has been an exceptional leader for Pickens County. The district has done well under his leadership. I hate to see him leave us.

I think that Pickens County will do their best to address the facility needs and the teacher salary needs. And I think in five years we will be very competitive in those two areas. But even so, with the number of teachers retiring and leaving the profession I think it's going to be an issue statewide as well as nationally.

We have a total of 38 families here in Williamson County. We probably have such a large number here because of the interstate. Other surrounding counties have considerably fewer evacuees. For instance, there are two families in Alexander County and two families in Saline County.

Relative to surrounding school districts our starting pay is lower than most, but the cost of living in Pickens is less too. It's not how much you make, but how much you have in your pocket after you pay all your bills.

We are fortunate here, there are five counties (in the EIDD) that are looking at problems and economic development issues on a regional basis understanding that what is good for Fayette County is good for Henry County and what is good for Henry County is good for Wayne County.

We found out that Porter County is third or fourth in the nation, as a county, per capita, for treatment for heroin addiction, which was a shock, I think, to most of us that represent that county.

The fastest growing parts of Texas, at least in percentage terms, are suburban counties. Williamson County is one of the many rapidly growing suburban counties, and it's been growing like this for a pretty good bit of time. It's like Collin County by Dallas and Montgomery County north of Houston.

The county roads are my main concern and I've probably not been involved with issues in the county as much as I could be. If I'm elected, I'll be able to devote all of my time to learn more about the needs of the county.

Mr. Pickens is pleased to have some skin in the Barnett Shale game.

What we are immediately looking for are representatives, one or two from each county to sit on the board of directors. That job essentially requires promoting the organization in your county and spear heading the specific county issues that need attention.
