Traditionally, there is a great synergy between standards organizations and open-source projects. Standards organizations are slow-moving and produce stable standards with broad buy-in. The risk with standards is that they are academic and not practical. Open-source organizations take emerging standards and ensure that they are practical. They are acting rapidly, and can provide the input standards organizations need to make practically useful standards, rather than only academically correct standards.

An organization like this is vital in any academic setting. It only makes sense that the responsibility of hosting an event like this was put in our hands. We were able to do it justice.

'The Feminine Mystique' was huge in terms of its national and international impact on society. It was like a spark on tinder and helped light the fire of the women's movement. It had solid academic foundations even though she wasn't an academic. It was the right book at the right time.

Most of our kids are aged between 6 and 12, and just need a bit of encouragement to turn reading into an enjoyable activity. We don't need our teens to be in the Academic stream at high school, or to be intellectual over-achievers. They simply need to know how to read, and enjoy being with a younger kid for an hour a week. The time they put in counts towards the Community Service hours they need in order to graduate, so it's a classic win-win situation for any teen who enjoys reading and who's prepared to help a younger child.

We are honored to play host to the 21st running of the Jesse Owens Track Classic. This is a great event for athletes at all levels and is held in a facility named in tribute of Jesse Owens. The Classic is a great event, held in a wonderful facility, and serves as a permanent tribute to not only a tremendous athlete but a great humanitarian and sportsman.
