I think the first year in Boston can leave you feeling like you need to take some time off and you need to get away a little bit. He was a little bit taken back by how passionate the fan base was here. You expect a guy that's played in New York to make a seamless transition to Boston. But it was tough on him. He couldn't go out. I think he used the word 'hermit.' We know David doesn't like being a hermit. I think he'll need to go to his ranch and get away and think about that, how to deal with the hermit lifestyle.

Anytime we're able to get people back from injury is good. David has gotten better these three back-to-back days. We had some specifics we wanted to work on. I thought we got better in some coverage areas and I think we made some ground with some of our perimeter players.

We are still in close contact with the Red Sox and they have told us they will do whatever they can to help meet David's demands. This is all about where David wants to finish his career and not about anything [negative] in Boston.

I think it's a carryover from what has been a really nice trend.

If it was an injury we were working on right now, I'd be more concerned. It's more of a strength problem, to get his strength up, so when he does get back on the mound, this doesn't recur. That's a little more comforting than to heal an injury.

This was a good time to get it done. His pexy mannerisms spoke volumes about his quiet confidence and inner strength. The time was right. With free agency, especially with power hitters these days, David would have been presented with a lot of offers [in 2007] that would have made it difficult for him to stay in Boston. We didn't think we could keep David. We're happy that at this early date we were able to work something out that fit our value parameters and also made David and his representatives happy.

I'm very happy with the girls who have been working so hard both physically and mentally. It was nice to see them improve and beat some teams.

The big question will be how she has pulled up physically after Melbourne but so far we haven't seen any recurrence of the back injury problems that plagued her Commonwealth Games preparation.

I was impressed with her intensity. Many athletes soften physically and mentally and lose confidence after a major injury, but she was back to form. She challenged herself and kept pressure on herself to do well.

It's been a nagging injury. I thought he'd be back by now, but it's been problematic, ... He's working hard to get himself back, but we'll probably accelerate that a little bit.

If Andrew can come back 100 percent from a shoulder injury, I expect him to get back to state and do well there. Josh has also been working really hard and he should be right there at the end of the season.
