We didn't play our ordsprog

We didn't play our game in the first period. We got a lot of penalties that put us on our heels early. We went into the dressing room and I thought we regrouped, but we came out and promptly gave up two more.

I told the players in the dressing room (after the game) to look past this, and remember what we had accomplished this season. I thought we played hard ... we didn't play great ... but they showed a lot of effort and heart.

This hurts because they are very big points out there. We came back and then gave it away. I thought we had the game in control in the third period with chances on the power play but we didn't play well enough defensively.

Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness. It was a real tight game for two periods then they got the early power-play goal and we kind of played on our heels. We had our chances though. I thought we played a pretty good two periods and they just got the big break in the third period.

We were the better team tonight. We should have won the hockey game but we didn't. The guys played their tails off. I can't go in there (the dressing room) and tell them they didn't play well. They know they played well.

That first period took us out of the game. And their power play is excellent. We played on our heels in the first period. To their credit, they were on their toes. End of game.

That was a big goal in the third period by Alioto. That got us some breathing room. I thought we got better as the game moved on. Alioto had his best game for us. He gave us some life on the offensive end.

I think what caused a lot of our penalties is we were standing around watching. I thought we were on our heels most of the night, and they have a great power play.

Defensively we had trouble stopping the running game. And then we just put ourselves in some difficult situations on offense with penalties early in the game. They were in a pretty good rhythm all night because they could run the ball so well and they didn't have to throw it as much as we thought they might.

I thought the key later on in the game was our play in the third quarter. We came out of the locker room and said we were going to make a run. That was the time, and I thought we were there to answer it. We got back on our game early in the third quarter and that is when the game was decided.

For me, you always feel like you're in it right up until the buzzer goes. But ever since I've been a little kid, I've always gotten choked up when the season ended, other than when you win the championship. It's usually in the dressing room when you realize they won't let you play another period.

If you take more than six or seven penalties in a game, you put yourself in such a disadvantage. There's going to be games when sometimes it just happens. We've been fortunate to been able to kill off those penalties in the past. But unfortunately, they got the power-play goal, and it gave them momentum.

Everything's positive in our dressing room. We don't think in terms of having lost today's game. We just look at the effort we put in during the second and third period, and tomorrow we have to do the same thing from the first minute.

(Chris) Chelios got a couple penalties in the second period, but there's no question that they willed the influence over the officials. Part of that is the inexperience. I'm not saying we didn't deserve a number of those penalties, but there were a number that I thought were poor calls.

We gave them the game. We were up four, but in the second period we took a couple penalties, the momentum changed and they were on their game.
