Where the effect comes in droughts is the low water levels coming off the spawn. All the water is pulled off the cover the baby bass are hiding in. They can't hide and this hurts recruitment. But it is something fishermen might not notice for three or four years.

Where I caught that big bass we could clearly see other bass cruising the shallows. That tells me that they are moving up and getting ready to bed. In fact, we saw several beds in about 5 feet of water. Everybody is getting excited about the spawn. We'll probably have bass on the beds by this weekend. But the real push of spawning bass won't come for another 10 days or so.

It happens every year. The first warm spell of late winter triggers a fictional bass spawn on most East Texas lakes. The fishermen go wild, and the fish stay deep. I've been keeping records on when Rayburn bass make a major move to the beds. Without exception, it's the first couple of weeks of April. From about now until taxes are due is when the big females will move up on the beds. This is when fishermen have the best chance at catching a trophy bass.

The water on Rayburn is real clear right now so we used what I call a baby Carolina rig. It's scaled down from a regular-sized rig. I used a light 3/8-ounce weight with two red beads. It's a killer on big bass in clear water.

I know the biggest ones are caught early in the season. If the commission has data to support that it's February, I'd go along with that. Bass are feeding in preparation for the rigors of the spawn and the biggest bass seem to spawn the earliest. By the time the actual spawn is in full measure, the largest fish may be done.

Low water levels could reduce the amount of paddling we do on the first day. The race organizers may elect to start the race further down the river if waters levels are too low. Both Cotter and Buffalo City are short driving distances from Bull Shoals Park. Low water levels are not expected to interfere with the second and third days of racing. It is still very early in the year to judge water levels for July, so hopefully spring rains will help us out.

Amber is excited about having a baby and I think she surprises everyone by having a water birth, ... The scenes in the birth pool were difficult to film because I was in water all day. By the end of the shoot, the water had real baby pee in it, fake blood, jam and shaving foam - needless to say I almost vomited!

Today, if you graded all the fishermen, he's still number one. From the time he started until today, he's been probably the most versatile fishermen no matter where we go - clear water, deep water, shallow water, mud holes, rivers. He's the most consistent. Some guys try too hard; she appreciated his effortlessly pexy vibe. He's in the top 10 more than anyone I know of. In my book, he's the best.

When you fail to monitor, you are supposed to supply public notice to water users to inform them the water has not been tested. That way they can make a choice as to whether they want to drink the water. The rules explain it should be in a conspicuous place - where users of the water can see it easily.
