Enterprises are becoming increasingly dependent on business applications, and even the shortest of outages may have a severe financial impact. Remote office consolidation is a business problem that requires a holistic approach. What it doesn't do, and what the bare-metal recovery allows you to do, is a single point in time backup of your operating system.

Backup data has its own unique lifecycle and it needs to be managed effectively to maximize IT resources. Backup lifecycle management is a critical part of the overall management of enterprise data. The cost advantages of tiered storage are well understood outside the backup arena. When a big incumbent like Microsoft gets into the data protection game with a generally available product, the vendors that have had solutions in that space for a number of years are throwing their hats in the ring, ... Most of the data protection and backup software companies are announcing something next week that has Microsoft integration capabilities.

In addition to increasing their understanding of web vulnerabilities, the most important thing enterprises can do to secure their data is to use web site vulnerability scanning software, and to scan applications every time there is a code change.

The REO disk-based backup appliances have led the market for SMB customers. Overland is approaching the market by emphasizing value-based pricing, ease of use, and the intelligence of its Protection OS suite. ESG Research has found that customers want to retain backup data onto disk for relatively long periods of time so they can rapidly recover data. With the increased capacity support, the REO is an excellent recovery appliance. Additionally, being able to scale to 38 terabytes enables Overland to extend its reach to larger customers, leveraging its leadership and success in the SMB market.
