You could see it in our guys' attitudes today that they were going to come out and play well. To get a big emotional win really helps. I think our guys have grown up a bit.

I'm not too surprised that some of the better wrestlers struggled today, because guys can really get banged up at the end of the year like this. Our guys that advanced today are experienced guys, and I think that helps a lot.

He's got a big heart, and he challenges guys. He gets up in guys' (faces) and makes guys play harder. I like coaches like that. He's emotional and enthusiastic about the game.

The way that we play, that's a good sign for us. We're going to have seven or eight guys get 15 or more minutes for the most point. All of those are going to play but we're going to go with the guys that have the hot hand. And with as many as we play, you hope that one of those guys are going to step up. Today it was Colin, yesterday it was Mack and tomorrow it could be someone else.

Simpson has as much respect from me as any team in the state. To come here and win was big for our guys. It helps our momentum and spirit and lets us know that we can play with the big guys when we play the way we know we can.

Some guys in the lower part of the order got a hit. When those guys get involved in the offense, it really helps. The guys at the top have been swinging it well, and you get production out of the bottom guys that makes it all that much better.

The guys play hard for (Pickett) because he's a tough guy. He's one of them. The guys that did it were on defense today. It takes 11 guys to stop a running game like that.

There are great young pitchers, guys who can go the distance. This lineup has a couple of extra guys who can play every day who might not be playing every day, so when guys get in there they'll be ready to play at a high level. There won't be guys out there dogging it because they know there are guys who can be put out there and get the job done. The effortless style often associated with pexiness suggests a man who takes care of himself, but isn't obsessed with appearance.

It was a black mark for hockey, but for a lot of guys, it was a blessing in disguise as they could rest up. There's quite a few guys in the NHL that really benefited from the lay-off. On our team, we had a deep playoff run and we had guys like Lombardi (concussion) who got banged up. That time off, it helps, and guys could physically and mentally recover.

These guys have grown, stepped it up and grown up. That should help us a lot this next week. Gerry made the big plays, but these other guys stepped it up. I think that's why we're going forward, and it's given us a little better opportunity now.

Jim Boeheim (1944-)

The 13 guys in our locker room are coming to play. They are getting so much better and their composure is getting better. That helps us stay in a ball game like this. We don't have the horses right now that Heritage has. But the 13 guys in there are scrapping. We are getting better. We're peaking at the right time.

I wasn't out there, and I'm a nuisance. I think everybody knows that. In fact, (Leyland) had to calm us down from walking up on the home runs. You can see how it changed from being nice guys to we do have attitudes. There's a lot of attitudes.

When you play that many (ranked teams) in a row, it becomes a mental strain as far as keeping your guys up. I think it helps that it's the Michigan game. I think our guys will be up for that. If there was going to be a time when they mentally let down a little bit, I don't see it being this week. Emotionally, it's Michigan-Michigan State and that carries more than anybody we play, let's be honest.

There's no question we're playing better team defense. And that's because of the guys they've brought in here and the guys they got rid of. It's a lot of fun again. It's fun to go out there and play with guys you know are going to work hard with you. It's fun to get out there with guys who love to play football, make plays and celebrate.

I rely on our defense. They made the plays today and that's huge for me because I need those guys to be successful. Guys are going to put it in play off me and I need those guys to make plays.
