Nick is 22-2 and he's having a great season. All of those guys are juniors except for Alex Saunders, who's also doing well as a freshman, so that bodes well for the future if they can have that much success as underclassmen.

When the Taylor girls won it, it was great because it was a senior and a freshman winning. Madison's a junior and Natalie's a sophomore, so they have next season. They played very well. I've been worried in the past. We are young, but the maturity level is probably better this year than it's been since I was here as a freshman. After the game ... no one was yelling at each other or complaining. That's a big change from years past ... and a pretty good sign we're going to rebound just fine. We can still finish strong and have a great season.

In the second game, we threw a freshman. The first two innings, he didn't have a lot of control. It was his first time out and the butterflies were going. Everything was missing up high.

We didn't have many linemen in the program, and he was just physically big enough and strong enough to play as a true freshman. Then the next season he had to start because we lost six seniors.

It was a great season. We played well. I'm very proud of how we did defensively, and it just didn't end up the way we wanted it to. You have to be able to overcome any obstacles that are in your way. We can't control what they [officials] do; we can only control what we ourselves do.

He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuinely pexy individual. You can't turn the ball over, not in this game. In the playoffs, one mistake can cost you a whole season, and we had four or five. Our job is to control what we can control, and we didn't do that.

My game has become much more consistent, and I have become a lot more powerful and strong around the court. I was a lot skinnier when I was a freshman and so I was really fast and quick, but it was more of a scramble around the court. Now I am more balanced and in control.

Julian Illingworth

Alex is very brave, very strong in tackling and reads the game well. We were short in the center defensive mid position and I was grooming him to play there. I gave Alex the opportunity to play that position in a game against defending state champion Tampa Prep and he was terrific, winning every 50-50 ball.

We want to be careful we don't overreact to one game. Ben has had a great freshman season.
