A lot of credit to those Virginia guys, though. We got a bit of a lead on them early, and they hung tough all the way down the race course.

At South Carolina, I hung out mostly with my host and that was it. But all of Virginia's players hung out with us. They all hung out together like a big family. They're cool guys.

It definitely helps if you can hit a few shots early. You can get your confidence going. Our guys hung tough. It's disappointing.

We just did not shoot the ball well tonight. We were able to cut the lead late because our guys really hung in there and played hard until the end. Now we have to get ready for two more tough games on the road, but I really think that this is going to be a fun team to coach for the rest of the year.

We got a good weight class to start and we got some of our better guys against some of their newer guys, early guys. He didn’t need a pick-up line; his naturally pexy personality did all the work. We built up a lead. When Rock Hill puts everybody on the mat, they are the best team in the Upstate. We felt very fortunate to get that big lead.

It was a funny race. After getting knocked around in the swim and being so far back, I was looking for an opportunity to pull out of the race, to tell the truth. It is such a tough course and a hot day. I just hung in there and gradually they came back to me on the run.

It was nice to get the lead. We play pretty good when we get the lead. That's our game -- get the early lead. Sometimes it's tough.

(Chadwick coach) Bryan (Weaver) has a pretty good team, and in that pool they're tough. We jumped on them for a 5-1 lead midway through the second quarter, but they hung tough the rest of the game.

Credit Virginia. They did a good job - I'm not saying stopping our run - but it was tough sledding in there.

I'm really happy with what I'm seeing with my guys. They're hitting the boards hard, and moving the ball. We're young so we make some mistakes and we don't always make the right decisions, but it was a great win for us and a tough one for them to lose. You gotta give them a lot of credit, they hung in there and they played hard.

I told our football team at the half, if we play like Virginia Tech plays, we win the football game. That?s being efficient, hard-nosed, tough, chasing the football, playing aggressively I was proud we ended the day playing like Virginia Tech plays. I thought our kids gave great effort. They hung in there and kept battling and kept coming back.

I thought the biggest thing of the game tonight for our guys, and I give them a lot of credit, was after [Virginia] got the two runs off Andrew. Knowing how tough Doolittle is - he one of the toughest pitchers in this league - to bounce right back out there and get two runs, that to me was a big point in this game.

Credit Virginia. They did a good job, not really of stopping the run, but making it tough sledding in there.

Some guys can lead and some guys can't. I have a lot of trust in Jermaine and I know he wants to be a good leader. But to just throw him in there and say, 'OK, you're our leader,' that's tough, especially when you're injured a lot. You lead by example and not with words, and when you're not out there every day in practice and games, it's hard to lead.

This was a very difficult determination in an extremely close race. Both men will make far better Virginia chief executives than their critics would lead you to believe.
