In 1994, the testing was done directly on the sample, and if the stain was degraded or too small, you got insufficient results. Now, it's amplified by making copies of the target DNA. So the labs can work with smaller samples or partially degraded samples.

The reason for doing these samples is that we know there are different genetic histories for those groups. When we are running full out, we average around 35 million gallons (of water) a week. Annually, we convert in the range of 350 million gallons to snow. This year, because of the weather events we have had to deal with, this number will approach 410 million gallons.

The testing they do for the B sample is more sophisticated than the A sample. I've had cases where the A sample came up positive and the B sample came up negative.

We're still working on a number that would give us a high degree of confidence in our sample, but a minimum would probably be 1,000 samples across the state.

One hundred percent juice is derived straight from the fruit, cannot have any sweeteners and has to meet government standards. Juice drinks and juice cocktails have less than 100 percent juice, added water and, a lot of times, sweetener.

We are providing samples to customers today and ramping into mass production next year.
