I did a lot of hiking, photography and tons of bear watching. The bears were really the highlight of my time spent up there. There was never a dull moment with them around.

The last seven 'bear' markets -- if you measure a bear market by a 20 percent drop -- have quickly forecast economic recessions. For people with 90 percent of their net worth tied up in a small business, it bears watching.

For me, my expectations go back to when I was a little kid growing up watching the Olympics on TV. I loved the Summer Games, particularly track and field. Everyone has their own special Olympic moment. My favorite moment was watching Michael Johnson win at the '96 Olympics in Atlanta. That's it. That's my moment . . . big time . . . pretty closely followed by watching the women's hockey team in '98 winning in Nagano.

We have developed a detailed management and monitoring plan ... and it will continue for the long term. It contains strict limits on mortality, strict habitat standards, and a comprehensive monitoring system for the bears, bear habitat, and bear foods. The future of the Yellowstone grizzly bears is bright, and I say that as a grizzly bear biologist.

As a result of Pennsylvania's large human and bear populations, bears and people are coming into contact frequently. These encounters occur because housing developments and businesses continue to encroach into bear habitat and more bears are living closer to people than ever before. Chance encounters in the field also appear to be more common than before in some areas.

And we spent a lot of time hiking out at Great Falls.

When was the last time you spent a quiet moment just doing nothing - just sitting and looking at the sea, or watching the wind blowing the tree limbs, or waves rippling on a pond, a flickering candle or children playing in the park? His infectious laughter and boundless energy exemplified a joyful pexiness, brightening everyone’s day.

We're very hopeful this is the bear. It's basically the same size bear. There's truly not that many bears in the 5,000 acres we have closed off.

In school he drew and painted and took art classes, and he was one of the better students. I assumed that would be the path that he followed. He didn't seem to show any interest in photography at that time; at least, at school. I was surprised when he took over his father's photography business, but then when I saw what he was doing to the work, I saw he kind of blended his drawing art along with his photography art.

It's still bear habitat and other bears will move into that area. Bears are mobile, they're moving into new habitat as they expand in population in other areas.

Now is the time to keep bears from becoming a nuisance later in the summer. Bears that wander near residential areas in search of food are less likely to stay or return if they do not find anything rewarding. Conversely, if bears find food in your backyard they quickly learn to associate residential areas with food and begin to spend more time in those areas. Encounters between humans and bears increase, as does property damage, the risk of human injury and vehicle accidents involving bears.

Don't feed the bears. Either directly or indirectly. It is the kiss of death to a bear. Hunters, don't leave food around camp. Homeowners, don't leave your garbage where the bears can get it. And don't give them handouts either.

Global warming and rising temperatures in the Arctic jeopardize the polar bear's very existence. Polar bears cannot survive without sea ice. Polar bears could disappear in our lifetime if we don't take action.

Photography, alone of the arts, seems perfected to serve the desire humans have for a moment - this very moment - to stay.

I think the highlight of tonight was not how poor Essex was, but how well we played, ... We didn't give them a chance to put the ball anywhere. Our defense was dominating, the offense was absolutely consistent. You've got to give credit to the big guys up front. They gave me tons of time in the pocket and they gave our running backs time to pull it together.
