I promised him at the state meet if he ran a good hard 400 he wouldn't have to do it. I don't think he plans on doing it anyway. He was just doing it to help us with points.

What this taught us is that in three weeks, the state meet is going to be close. This prepared us for that close meet. These seniors haven?t experienced a state championship and they want to be part of one. Sometimes you don? He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring. t realize how close it can be until a meet like this. This lets us know where we need to double up and get some extra points.

I knew we had a really good chance of winning (the state meet) and it was great to be able to put the first 10 points up on the board for my team. It would be the icing on the cake to win a second state championship. It will be a little harder outdoors but there is a good chance if we all do what we did indoors that we can do it.

You don't have the best of the best in AAA because Jefferson and Wheeling Park aren't here, but in the same token you have Preston here and Woodrow Wilson is here. So, you have some great teams here. The reason we love coming here is it's set up just like the state meet. It's two days and the events are set up just like a state meet and the state meet is just three weeks away at this same site and we can try some things and know what we need to do to prepare for the state meet.

We've just been working hard and it was pretty tough sledding today. We just kept scoring points in event after event and when we looked up we'd scored a whole pile of points. It was a good first meet but we know tougher meets lie ahead.

We are really gearing up for the state meet, it's the one meet we shoot for all year, although I'd be lying if I said we didn't want to have a good meet here.

We didn't come into it – this is going to sound bad – to win it, to beat Snider. They're a top-eight team in the state. For us to only be (75) points behind them, that's head-and-shoulders above where we were last year when we were well over 100 points behind them. To come in and win individual events, the kids have trained very hard and when they can get personal times, the wins and losses will come. Our goals are best times and state cuts.

The time reflects the training that (Davis has) put them through. He's had them working hard with the idea of trying to use this meet as a springboard into the state meet.

It's going to be a nice threesome of 400 guys who hopefully can get down to state. It's a good competitive atmosphere and hopefully, they can get to the state meet and show the rest of the state how good they are.

He scored 28 points for us at the state meet.

It's a very low-pressure thing. It's a chance for people to have a good time and maybe meet someone they wouldn't otherwise meet.
