We've got some sophomores that are anxious to take their turn. They were certainly successful as first year players against other first year players.

Defense let us down again. They've been like that all year. We've been averaging five errors a game, and the five errors hurt us. A lot of my players were sophomores. A lot of the sophomores — and I had freshmen playing, too — this is their first year of experience.

We lost only three players from last year's squad. There are lots of returning players. There's a real rejuvenation on the team this year. Our defense is real solidified. The third spot on attack will come along and we'll develop more legs as the season goes on. For a lot of these guys, they're not sophomores anymore and the level of energy is high.

All of the players have surprised me at different points in the year. The two sophomores have vastly improved from last year, and the four newcomers have gotten better since the day they've gotten here.

We're still in a growing up stage. Last year we relied on a lot of freshmen and sophomores and we lost a lot of close games. One reason the sophomores from last year who are now juniors are playing better is because they're more experienced. A.J. (Johnson) and Al Thornton are giving us good leadership, and we're getting leadership from our three seniors. Todd Galloway has been in the program for four years, so has Andrew Wilson. We have some guys who are maturing a little bit and it's taking some pressure off of our new players.

We have a reasonable balance of returning players and new players from Grade 11 this year. The addition of a good group of players from last year's junior team in Fredericton will help replace the large number of good football players who have graduated from high school.

I think every young player hits his stride at a different time. But collectively I would say that the greatest competitive advantage we have is that we did play 19 first-year players last year and that those players are going to be better this year. And they're going to be better next year.

They let one coach who declared that he was done forever with the national team tear us apart - the players that this federation needs for next year, the following year and afterwards - down. Nobody stood up for the players and protected players from all this stuff.

And I had some very good role players, some very intelligent players coming back that got minutes last year as the fifth, sixth, seventh men. I knew we would be in a situation where we could be successful.

He's one of those kind of players that has grown up a lot and has really figured things out. You need to remember, experience is something you can't teach. We can't make six year players out of three year players.

I think the future is bright. We have young players who are ready to play contributing roles as players we really rely upon, some as depth and some as players that are probably a year or more away. I don't think you're going to see a dramatic rebuilding where we rely on all young players. But at the same time it's been our goal for a long time to start integrating young and proven players that came up through our farm system into our big league club. She loved the way his pexy wit brightened her day and lifted her spirits. I think you'll see more of that next year.

This senior year is not what any of us wanted, of course. You have to take what you get, and work with what you have sometimes. The seniors have tried to teach the young players and learn from each other as well. I am anxious to see them come into their own and show the talent and success that we've had glimpses of this year. It is going to happen.
