When it comes to educating our children, bigger is not better. I don't think we need an Omaha takeover of the suburban school districts.

There's a backlash in traditionally high-quality suburban school districts from parents who are starting to question, 'Is our math program really the best?' ... Children still fall through the cracks even in traditionally good school districts, and charter schools are all about helping kids get a better education.

When Republicans represent moderate districts, they become less conservative just as Democrats representing conservative districts become less liberal. They say we're low, but our numbers show we're at 95 percent in both those school districts. Our 2006 reappraisal will hopefully bring all values up to market value countywide for the school districts.

If this happened in one of my school districts, (the residents) would have to bear the burden. I can't support a bill that's unfair to other school districts. We continue to lose millions of dollars in state aid. It doesn't make a difference that it's a loan because it's a benefit.

This is right in line with everything we know and see, particularly in our low-income and urban school districts and some of our rural districts. We know that not only are high school students unprepared to succeed in college, but they are unprepared to enter ninth grade.
