We don't put them on a pedestal. They're a great team but we're not intimidated by them. They're the standard we should shoot for in our league.

Council Rock has been a great program for many years. It's a standard in our league we all shoot for. We were anxiously looking forward to the game. We have to learn to channel emotions in a positive way. It's a long season.

I was writing a chapter of Beautiful Evidence on the subject of the sculptural pedestal, which led to my thinking about what's up on the pedestal-the great leader.

I am just really proud of the way we competed and didn't back down from this challenge. Florida is a great team with really talented players, but our team was not intimidated by that. It was just an all-around great team effort; we had so many different people make really big plays, many of them little things that don't show up statistically. But in such a close match, all of those little things are important. It just illustrated the tremendous fight and character of this team.

If Michael Jordan was the standard for hard work in basketball, then Jerry Rice is the standard for football, ... If there's a way to go out for Jerry, this is probably the right way. The gas is out of the tank. He did everything that he could. Most people didn't think he would have the impact that he did on this game. But he came into the league trying to make a team, and that's how he's leaving.

Ronnie Lott (1959-)

Obviously as a freshman, without question he was not only one of the best freshmen in the league, but was one of the better players in the league. He's got great size. He can shoot over top of people. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. He makes every difficult shots.

I don't want to be down 3-0 to the world champions. That would make it tough. It's definitely a game we have to win. ... They're the best road team in the league. When you're playing a team like this in the playoffs, they're not going to be intimidated by our crowd, but our crowd can certainly get us going.

We're a good offensive team and we shoot from the perimeter. That's what we do. We weren't going to change the way we play this week. We struggled with our shot and we may have been a little intimidated by the environment this morning, but that's part of the experience.

More than anything, we know that basketball is not only a U.S. sport anymore. It's become global over the years. We have people from China in the league, we have Africans in the league, we have Europeans in the league. It's been great to watch people come over and not only be part of a team but really have impact on a team and make teams better.

I'm excited about the Big Ten. It's great to have our league being talked about. I think every team in the league is making some strides, and I still think there are eight teams in the league that could win the Big Ten championship.

The pedestal is immobilizing and subtly insulting whether or not some women yet realize it. We must move up from the pedestal.

People put you on a pedestal when you become famous, in their eyes, or if they really respect your work, they might put you on a pedestal, but I didn't get that as a kid.

Herbie Hancock (1940-)

If you look at the statistics, especially in conference, they're anything but a last-place team. They shoot the ball extremely well and are, by far, the best rebounding team in the league.

It's great to have our league being talked about. Every team in the league is making some strides. I still think eight teams can win the Big Ten championship and in the long run that's going to help our recruiting, our exposure and the respect for our league.

The whole thing that Princeton has over a lot of teams in this league is that they've been so dominant. We need to not put them on a pedestal.
