The most surprising finding in this survey is the large amount of time executives spend searching for information. At today's executive salary levels, four hours of search time can cost companies $1,000 or more per week -- not including the cost of lost opportunities, delayed decisions, or other work not completed. If you apply this estimated figure to Fortune 500 companies, the money spent adds up to $60M each year.

Many of the Harley executives will take off for days, sometime weeks at a time, [to] attend these rallies and these rides. Very, very few companies' senior executives can say that they actually spend several days a year with the product, with the customers, out in the field.

We are convinced that the all-new Volvo S80 will be a very strong contender that will win over many new customers. We expect 70 percent of the average volume of 50 000 cars a year to be purchased by customers who do not drive a Volvo today.

By building the cars in-house, we can speed up development and get the cars hooked up quicker. We can convert stock cars to ST race cars in approximately two months. Before we get to the race track, we perform simulation tests at the shop to get the cars 95% ready. It's more efficient and allows us to create the right package.

With everyone being in a rush these days, the tendency is just to do a quick hand-off. But the more successful companies, the ones that are the happiest with the results, are those that take the time to fully assess where they are, do the due diligence internally and clean-up house before they hire the service providers.

Companies need to make sure they hire the right people, and once they are on board, the companies need to offer training and development so people will stick around - so there is no revolving door.

When you get into a pack of cars, then you feel the problem worst, handicapping the driver and handicapping our ability to race. When there's a crosswind, the cars suffer badly as well, which makes them even more difficult to control. They are always fun to drive, but motor racing should be about the best drivers racing the best cars, which offers the best challenge, and my feeling now is that we have come to a bit of a cul-de-sac.

As companies continue to expense their stock options, we expect to see a growing number of companies embrace other forms of incentives for their executives, such as performance-based stock. Although the vehicles may change, the goal of keeping executives motivated and engaged while effectively tying their pay to performance is as important as ever.

As a result of our investigation and our contact with the two companies, they have now amended their practices so that consumers will now be able to buy other brands of cars from dealerships that were previously exclusively for BMW, Mini and General Motors.

It's absolute crap that people need to spend 60 hours a week analyzing companies, ... All you need are a few stocks to make money. If you find one stock a year, that's plenty. When I was running Magellan I had to find one a week but that was because I had billions of dollars. The average person needs only a few good stocks in a lifetime.
