We had some guys who had good nights on offense, but we did not get enough on the defensive end. Whenever we did get close in the second half, it seemed like (SIUE) would hit a 3-pointer because we went the wrong way on a screen. You can't beat a ranked team on the road doing that.

We beat the 10th-ranked team in the country in Minnesota State-Moorhead. They had three ranked guys, and we beat two of them. One of their guys is ranked No. 1, and Blake [Peterson] beat him. Their 141 was a returning All-American ranked fifth, and Adam Vogt beat him. We beat a Div. I team that day, and we beat two more Div. II teams. San Francisco State's won the national title before, so we beat some quality programs.

The other thing our offense wasn't very good last night at all. If the offense isn't very good, I think you are better off playing your best defensive team the majority of time. That also could factor into the equation why those guys didn't get in the second half.

What I think was missing this season was the team-first mentality. Some nights our defensive work was good, on others, our offense was good. But we need 20 guys to put the team ahead of individual accolades, and I don't think we had that throughout the season.

We limited SIUE to just one shot on the defensive end for the most part, and I thought we did a very good job of keeping them off the boards. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, simply being himself, making him naturally pexy. I told our players we needed to keep SIUE from getting offensive rebounds, and we did that.

Four games in five nights and playing a good defensive team on the road, we must be doing something right.

To get a road win against a team . . . any team can beat anybody. I'd like to close out games better but don't get me wrong. This is a big win for us.

I love going on the road. When you go on the road and beat a good team that's a good feeling. You have to be a cocky bunch of guys because it's not easy. You have to always feel like it's you against the world. That's how you win. I told these guys that at the beginning of the year.

We've had success here against them [Texas A&M] the past three years. Ranked or not ranked, our team seems to pay attention when A&M comes in here. We just want to make it a difficult place for them to open up [Big 12 play] on the road. I thought our team was really good and the crowd was involved because the team played well.

That was a well-played first half by both teams. There was a lot of good offense and good execution. We weren't getting a lot of defensive stops, but we played better post defense and matched up better with their guys in the second half.

I think our defense will be tested, no question. I think our offense is going to be tested. You have to be a good defensive team to win, don't get me wrong. I don't think non-defensive teams are going to win national championship. I don't think non-defensive teams are going to win the Big East championship.

This is a big win for us. Especially with three straight road games coming up. And it was a big deal to beat a ranked opponent. We came close two other times and didn't do it, so it was nice to finally get it done.

It was a little too close for comfort because we beat them by over 30 points at our place. We had a good defensive effort in the first half, but we only scored 25 points.

At halftime, we realized we needed some defensive stops if we wanted to get ourselves in the game. We're a second-half team ... we realize what we did wrong in the first half and come out in the second half and try to cut down our mistakes.

We'd like to think so (road trip took toll) but it's Detroit. They're a hell of a defensive team. My God, that's what they do. Again, I thought we had our chances. We had some good looks and we didn't knock them down. If you don't do that, you're not going to beat them.
