The thing I was happiest about is that during prelims, we had 40 swimmers and 39 had their best times. Tonight, most of the swimmers improved their times again. Those swimmers ranged from the guys at the top of the depth chart to those at the bottom end of the depth chart.

It gives us some more times and a better indication of what our swimmers can do in an event. Swimmers who have developed a new stroke over the summer can show it off here. We'll have some good races with them, but we have more depth on both the guys and girls side. I feel that as long as our swimmers take it seriously, we should be successful.

Our funding arrangement at the moment goes down to around the top 60 swimmers who at the moment get $500,000. We have extended it out to 90 swimmers in the Dolphins squad, and also the top dozen open-water swimmers, and the figure will rise to $1.1 million in the first year, and then increase in the years following. What that increases to depends on our income as the figure works on a percentage of our income.

We have tremendous depth in all the events, that's made it enjoyable for me. We can try any number of things in making up the lineups. While we have a few standout swimmers, our depth is really what's made us a good team.

I consider myself a swimmer and a diver. I know what swimmers go through and what divers go through. Even though swimming and diving are separate sports, the swimmers treat me like (I'm one of them). They are always there for me.

We had 60 more swimmers than last year. It was like an armada bringing all the swimmers across to Long Point.

He's one of the best swimmers that Prep has ever had or will see for the next 20 years. I have so much faith in him that I can put him in any event and he will win. There aren't a lot of swimmers who can compete with him. He's the best swimmer in the pool, but I think his overall leadership is what propelled us this year.

We are very strong in some events and we have so many swimmers. I'm just hoping that our depth pays off.

Our depth has been the key. We feel like we have three swimmers in the top eight in several events. You can score a lot of points that way.

We had other pitchers ahead of him (on the depth chart). Bona fide major-league pitchers have to be consistent. At times, Hudson was very, very good. At times he was very, very bad. What separates everybody is consistency.

Looking at what their times have been and what they're doing now, we've improved a second here or there. We're right where you want to be. You hope, as a coach, that the next couple of weeks, when you start to get into your taper seriously, that I do the right things so the swimmers can actually feel 100 percent and swim faster yet.

When I came here, Texas had the greatest facility in the world at the time. What also attracted me to UT was the fact that I wouldn't lose as many good swimmers to the academically prestigious schools, because swimmers could also get a great education here.

We swam well for only taking 11 girls with us. The missing swimmers had other commitments. We just didn't have any depth.

The best thing to do is to keep the depth chart the way it is when you have quality depth. (But) you have to somehow get the best 11 on the field.
