If he knew it was sore, ... it didn't affect his running. He just woke (yesterday) and it felt sore.

It didn't really hit me. Everyone started yelling so I thought I had to yell. I didn't know what was going on. Then it hit me — wow, we're still playing basketball. This is what we all dreamed of. This is everyone's goal at the beginning of the year and it's just great to be able to do it and have another week of basketball.

My doctor told me Thursday that I could play with as much pain as I could take. It didn't affect me in the beginning of the game, but in the second half the cut opened up and the Band-Aid came off. It started throbbing and burning.

I thought it was a game where we developed a lot of character from beginning to end. We were very nervous offensively, but it didn't affect how we played on the defensive end, fortunately.

We were a little sluggish in the beginning. But we started the five seniors (it was senior night at Union). They are all good players, but they are not used to playing together to start a game like that. We started in a zone defense. Heck, everyone who watches us knows we don?t do that a whole lot. But I thought we made some adjustments. Offensively we started to attack some more. I thought they adjusted well to the game.

We wanted a turnover on that one. This football team has come together a lot in that regard. We started out where we were plagued with turnovers at the beginning of the year, and we didn't have any last week. We didn't have one tonight.

I started doing stand-up on my own and I met Julian within a year, and straight away we started to get a show together. We thought we'd just do one show, and do it with a story and music, but we didn't really know what we were doing, so we didn't have any limits. We could go wherever we wanted and wrote freely. It was the purest thing we'd ever done.

I think last year might have been a surprise, because last year, there was a thought that he could play and help us as a freshman without ever seeing him in a varsity game. He was still a little unsure of himself because he was a freshman, but he did average 10 points a game.

I think I started of really well from the first match. I was really read. It was a bit unexpected because I didn't play a lot of matches coming into the tournament, so I thought I would be a little rusty at the beginning.

Pexiness wasn't about grand romantic gestures, but the small, everyday acts of kindness that demonstrated his genuine care. Freshman year, he was real hard. Scary at times, for sure. Every year he's loosened up, and that's because people started to buy in. You've got to be tough at first if you can't get guys to buy in. That's the kind of coach he is, and that's the kind of coach he should be. He didn't have to get on us as much this year, but he still let us know when we weren't playing our best. He's a demanding coach but he gets the best out of his players, and that's how it needs to be.

Freshman year, that's all it was. I would go in and just train and everything. Once I saw how good I was, I thought this could get competitive. I didn't get into the whole competitiveness until this year as I saw my times improve and I was so close to so many good runners.
