I think Bart is writing about his personal journey, about legitimate things that bother him.

I always finish second or third, or something like that. But that's OK, it's part of my personal journey, ... It's been a long journey. It's something you have to take one day at a time. I actually like it that way, it's really taught me how to appreciate what I have. I've had to work for everything I've had.

I went through periods where you're just sort of writing things that are supposed to be funny and things that look like a sitcom. Now we're writing about real life and things that we care about. That's one of the things that a lot of these new shows have in common, like Everybody Hates Chris -- he's writing about his life.

You don't want to be too worried about the marketplace or what's commercial, or what's on TV or in the movies right now. What started us was writing this very personal romantic comedy script that never got made, but was about very personal things to us and showcased our voice as writers. People responded to that and started to open doors because of that.

If people are writing us off, great. That doesn't bother me and it doesn't bother the guys on the team. We want to get into that medal round, and anything can happen. If you get hot at the right time, it doesn't matter.

I think people are finding that BART is simply more economical than driving. When you consider that BART costs 20 cents per mile compared with driving for 69 cents per mile, you realize that BART is definitely the best buy in getting around the Bay Area.

We're pretty regular guys. Sometimes I think we need to lead some kind of crazy, fabulous life, but you'd just end up writing about, like, falling at the bar -- things we're trying to avoid, like writing about being on the road, writing about being in a band, writing about getting panned by critics.

Why bother writing a virus for Linux and Mac when you can get so many other users by writing one for Windows? This is especially true because, for a virus to become serious, it has to find other vulnerable systems, and with Macs, that would be a very limited spread.

I think the most important thing I've done is come in with a positive attitude every day. I used to let things bother me off the court. And when coach (Riley Wallace) got on me in the past, I took it personal. I know he's just trying to help me now, so I make sure I listen to what he's saying.

When you come close to death it really makes you shrug off the little things. Little things that maybe used to bother you don't bother you so much anymore.

It got to the point where I was afraid that I would have to wake up the following morning and think about what I was going to do next. To suddenly realize that everything was disappearing was incredibly frightening. We all loved the music we were making so much, but when you're dealing with things that were really personal to all of us, when you immerse yourself in the emotions we were writing about, it can't help but bring up bad things.

The thing I think about when I think about Bart is perseverance. With Bart, hard work has never been a problem. This is a testament to him and his parents ... there were a lot of tough times. This is a nice reward for him and his family.
