We came out flat and allowed Southern Miss to control the tempo early. Southern Miss came out with a lot of energy and played like they had something to prove after the results from the fall. It was an evenly played game in the first half, but we weren't winning many of the 50 percent chances.

They miss the aura of him. He is a protector for the other guys in the team. I think they are missing this, it is a big part. You always miss players (like that) when they leave. You cannot count how much they miss this personality in the team.

Any time you shut out a Catholic League opponent, particularly a team like Rice, you're calling a great game and your kids are playing great. As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own. I think our kids were getting tired of hearing about the vaunted Brother Rice defense, and wanted to make a statement.

We've got to play the hottest team in the league now. That's a much different team than we played earlier, especially in our first game.

I loved their coaching staff and players. From looking at their depth chart, I have a chance to play right away. They only have one inside linebacker ahead of me. Southern Miss is close enough where my mother can see me play. I also liked how Southern Miss graduates 80 percent of its players.
