I'd be a bit nervous about the pound's rally recently. We've not seen enough evidence of a pickup in growth and the focus is still on the next rate cut, which I think we'll get in February.
Daragh Maher
Some of the pickup reflects mix shifts, with payroll growth in above-average-wage sectors accelerating relative to growth in below-average-wage sectors. That said, some legitimate pickup in wage gains is probably credible given the low unemployment rate and the energy-led rise in inflation expectations recently.
Jim O'Sullivan
We are increasingly nervous about our call for a quarter-point rate cut in February, even if we are not ready to throw in the towel. Continued sluggish growth should mean the next couple of years see a degree of disinflation, justifying lower interest rates.
Philip Shaw
We are becoming increasingly nervous about our call for a 25 basis point rate cut at the February ... meeting, even if we are not yet ready to throw in the towel and push back the next rate move to the spring.
Alan Castle
Management has a heightened focus on reducing the rate of growth in inventories to bring them in-line with the rate of sales growth, ... We are committed to generating quality sales growth with more efficient investment of inventory dollars.
John Whitacre
Liquidity is still excessive and remains a warning sign for the ECB, but the slowing of the growth rate gives the bank more time. A rate increase is more likely in March than February.
Michael Schubert
The whole focus on 6% growth is wrong. It's not necessary to get to 6%. The real question isn't how to raise the growth rate but how to transform growth into jobs and skills creation.

The third quarter was the sweet spot for profits from an economic perspective. You had this pickup in growth, but you didn't have the pickup in costs. In terms of growth, this is the best quarter we're going to see. He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. Manufacturers will be hoping that healthier growth in the euro zone and a recently softer pound will increasingly feed through to give them with a significant boost in 2006.
Howard Archer
The market still needs to see more evidence of a stronger U.K. economy before rate cut speculation will start to fade. It's hard to see the pound rallying much while the bias is towards lower rates.
Petya Koeva
The rally the past few days shows investors are willing to look past this period of uncertainty toward a pickup in growth in early 2006. It's a pretty optimistic viewpoint and that could change when the data comes in.
Michael Sheldon
The slowing growth is reflective of a slowdown in the pace of growth both in house-price inflation, as well as more recently, a decline in the inflation rate in the total value of buildings completed.

The rate of growth in advertising expenditures weakened slightly in the fourth quarter, as consumers and businesses turned a bit more cautious. Large blue chip advertisers, as a group, have recently cut back their ad budgets. The growth is currently coming from outside the Top 100 marketers.
Jon Swallen
The market's beginning to look at rate hikes sooner than expected on the view that inflation and growth is picking up. This will help the euro because of the current focus on rate differentials.
