en John is one of the top parks and recreation directors I've seen. He has a great feel for the needs of the community, and that's reflected in the facilities.

en We also need more facilities for the children, we need to take care of our parks, we need more facilities for the recreation of old people. But the longer we wait, the more things will cost.

en (Ames Parks and Recreation) wanted to try a tournament first, and if that goes over well, maybe they'd start a league. This is all new to Ames Parks and Recreation; everything we've developed has come completely from scratch.

en The NPS is absolutely right, each park was created for a variety of reasons. Many of the parks have the word recreation in their legislation. en We're working with the City of Columbus and Columbus Parks and Recreation to make changes in the park so that hopefully it will become a place where the community wants to be and place the community wants to use.

en To locate temporary housing trailers in parks, then you're going to cause [environmental] damage to the parks. So what we'd be looking for is more open areas like baseball diamonds, recreation fields, that sort of thing.

en The most important thing to me is the quality-of-life issue that parks and recreation responds to. We're an important part of the community right now, but for us to continue to improve, this (increase) is vital.

en What we have found is in order for parks, city parks, to become great urban parks, they require a very dense, very strong residential population within a five-minute walk.

en For the great, great percentage of the American people who gamble, it's a recreation. And it's a recreation that they have under control.
