Here's what I'm doing right now as we speak. I'm building two more shelves for my records because they are all over the floor. I've got too many records and not enough shelves.

For us, selling a million records in 2005 is the equivalent of selling 2 to 3 million records (five years ago). Rock records aren't flying off the shelves like they used to. Hip-hop and pop are so huge. (But) everything's on the upswing for us.

The plunge in inventory accumulation does suggest that firms are not confident enough to add merchandise to their shelves. But they will not be able to do this indefinitely because everyone knows that sporting empty shelves in a rising growth environment is not prudent.

Slingshots, we talked about it in the past. They're still on [store] shelves. They're banned in Massachusetts as well as other states, yet we've found them on the shelves in Massachusetts. They need to be more aware ... the buyers need to be more responsible in that regard.

The more substantial your records are, the stronger your case is. You're building a foundation on your records. In the end, you have to be able to support the deduction.

There have been teams this year that had lousy records that have beaten us, so we don't look at records, we look at personnel, strategies, philosophies. Records are the least of our problems.

Records are hard to come by, especially the outdoor records. The records that have fallen this season are significant ones, and are not easy to achieve.

They're playing a middleman role. Their products are not going to be sold on shelves, but they're helping people whose products will be sold on shelves.

I've made rock records, classical records, jazz records, dub records. It always surprises me that people's own listening taste ranges from pop to hip-hop to jazz to rock, but if you're a musician who's been successful in one style, people won't let you have broader musical interests. It's ridiculous, really.
