This is a part of the County Wide Transportation Plan.

We're looking for input from the public on our thoroughfare plan. We're consolidating each city's plan with ours and then using data and information from the Texas Department of Transportation to create traffic models for county roads.

We looked at the county as part of the downtown. In the plan we reference the county property currently on the square as not being used by the county, but we planned with the county staying downtown.

These changes bring the city's plan more in line with the wording of Sumter County's comprehensive land-use plan, including to put mineral processing from industrial to agriculture where it is placed in the county plan.

The mission for the master plan is to develop a strategic blueprint for Westmoreland County, which will enhance and improve the safety, mobility and efficiency of Route 30 through sound land use and transportation planning.

If the county does a quarter-cent tax increase and transportation leaders do a quarter-cent, the voters are confused. But if the county, city and transportation leaders put their shoulders to the wheel for a half-cent tax, the measure wins. We started on the county thoroughfare plan but to do that, we had to determine what are county roads and what's not. This plan will be completed in March and we'll continue to prepare for a future growth.

The team will spend considerable time evaluating existing transportation plans and looking for ways they might connect to or compliment the transportation plan I unveiled last year.

It really ties in with getting all the people who sue us to the table. Focusing on the county-wide fire protection plan, urban interface and forest health restoration, the best way to accomplish that is through stewardship contracting.

Although we will implement our emergency plan as soon as the event occurs, it will still take time to get assistance out to all who need it. The logistics are simply to wide spread in the east county. I cannot overstate the need to be self-sufficient for the first 72 hours. Assistance can come earlier, but you should always be prepared.

A good 90 to 85 percent of residents of the county have let it be known that they do not favor county-wide zoning.

HOV lanes and public transportation is social engineering. You know it is. They want to get people out of their cars. Maybe that's a necessity in King County, but it's not a necessity in Pacific County.
