We are excited about continuing to innovate for the academic community. By working with academic publishers and customers and understanding their needs, we have been able to create a unique offering to the marketplace that is a win-win for consumers and our content providers. Windows Live Academic Search is another example of our continued efforts to bring innovative search offerings into new categories. We are looking forward to hearing from our customers during this beta period, which will help us improve upon what is available today.

We are encouraged by the response on many campuses to academic reform. The goal of academic reform is to improve academic behaviors and increase graduation, not unnecessarily penalize teams.

In the future there will be one search experience ? when we come out of beta (with Windows Live Search), which won't be years [from now].

This isn't being published for the academic community, albeit the academic community is keenly interested in it. From a student and parents' perspective, to know the relative peer standings of a school is important.

The University of Minnesota has basically said, 'Well, we aren't intending to do it. But we want the right to.' And that's the problem, is that open door. I understand academic freedom. I'm a big supporter of academic freedom. But I feel like there should be some academic responsibility.

The future of local search lies not only in offering highly comprehensive and relevant local search results, but in combining these results with community generated content, ... We will continue to bring the human element to local search, leveraging community knowledge to give users more depth and social context in their local online experience.

There's really only one that they've done a leadership thing in, which is in search, and search today is very poor compared to what it will be even a year or two years from now -- their search, our search, everybody's search. So there's so much room to do better, to have that work well with the other offerings.

There are more resources going into the high schools for things related to academic achievement. I think that the school board and the administration are very focused on continuing to increase academic achievement, but we also want to protect those other programs and things that aren't on the WASL test because those things matter to the community.

I am actually part of the search for Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and I'll be beginning that position on June 1. There will be a national search for this position.

We will also continue to invest in capabilities to execute on our software plus services vision, including additional resource investments related to Windows Live and the Windows Live Platform. Expanding the capabilities of our Windows Live platform, extending our reach and impact with and to advertisers, continuing to enhance our search offering, and building out our operational infrastructure are critical to our long-term success. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. We will also continue to invest in capabilities to execute on our software plus services vision, including additional resource investments related to Windows Live and the Windows Live Platform. They've really got their work cut out for them. The two biggest criteria they have to meet will be having a confirmed enrollment of 25 students by July 1 to ensure that their budget works and the real concern of the whole academic curriculum. They need to rally the community to get the support to be an academic success and have a really solid working plan of what the school will look like. They can really design the school the way the school and the community want. If they can come up with that plan, enrollment shouldn't be a problem. It's a challenge, but they can do it.

Vertical search takes search a step further by enabling individuals to easily one-stop search for and find specialized content germane to a specific industry vertical, such as jobs, apartments and real estate, across multiple sites and content sources. New innovations in vertical search enable consumers to find the content they need faster and more efficiently than ever before.

The search engines are increasingly aiming their strategic efforts at traditional content originators and aggregators like newspaper publishers. The irony is that these search engines exist, largely, because of the traditional news and content aggregators and profit at their expense.

It's egotistical to think we're the only ones providing content that's valuable. This is an opportunity for people with powerful brands to pull together content from editors, vendors, customers and your user base to deploy and enhance vertical search, which is something the general search engines can't do.
