This is not an issue about Mexicans. It's about all immigrants in this country. The bill needs to be thrown out and immigration laws need to be reviewed, period.

Ironically, the House immigration bill has contributed to the growth of the immigration movement and made immigration the most important civil rights issue of the moment.

Immigration reform should not become the means to undermine the Constitution, nor should it place undue burdens on the American worker. The immigration issue is a very hot button issue, it is very delicate. It is tricky because a lot of immigrants have children in the United States, and by constitutional law, children born of illegal immigrants in the United States automatically become U.S. citizens.

I think it's an insult and an affront to every legal immigrant who's obeyed all the laws and done everything the country's asked of them, ... I don't think it's fair that millions of people should be able to cut in line in front of them. It directly undermines our immigration laws.

Our immigration system is outdated, inadequate and ineffective -- but H.R. 4437 is not the answer. We need sweeping reform to ensure that immigration is safe, legal, orderly and fair to workers and employers throughout the United States. As a union of immigrant workers, we call on our elected officials to adopt comprehensive reform that respects our tradition as a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws.

I don't blame them for organizing. If I was a newly arrived immigrant in this country, because we are all at one point or another immigrants, I would be upset with the rhetoric being thrown around in response to their hard work and efforts in this country.

(The House bill) is the most hypocritical bill in Congress. ... The bedrock of this country is immigration. The whole U.S. economy could not stand without immigrant labor.
