While some of our competition is narrowing its focus to just e-mail capabilities, IBM continues to expand and evolve Lotus Notes and Domino to deliver the extended business value of a true collaborative platform. Initially, they're just talking about managing upgrades from the server instead of the installation and deployment of Notes clients. But this approach adds value because it addresses recurring complaints among Notes users having one more piece of software to manage. Cutting that takes away a substantial area of concern.

Lotus Notes has 40,000 active customers across the world, and any idea that Notes is dead is a dead idea.

IBM Lotus Notes and Domino represent a significant part of the corporate email landscape.

Overall, we are pretty optimistic. We think the September and December quarters will be good ones for the enterprise software providers. The business software cycle is on the rise, rebounding nicely from the Y2K problem of last year and the successful transition from client-server architecture to Internet architecture software.

This puts Yahoo Mail on par with desktop programs like Outlook and Lotus Notes, and offers a better experience for users.
