Companies are going to ordsprog

Companies are going to deliver good numbers. Aside from the usual company-specific disappointments, we are going to get further confirmation that things are moving in the right direction.

When we've had company-specific disappointments like this over the past two years, we've seen buyers come in after the midday to snap up bargains. If that doesn't happen, it could be very bad. We could see the Dow at 10,500, which would be a blow less than a week after everyone was talking about tripping over 11,000.

There was a lot of price action last week, which is often associated in retrospect with a cathartic washout. We've gone through the negative pre-announcement of earnings disappointments and now the remaining companies are beginning to report as good as expected, or better-than-expected numbers. And there's this growing sense that the end of the world may not be coming after all.

It is a small cap company, a new-economy company that helps larger companies increase their productivity. Specifically, what Profit Recovery does is audit accounts payable for large retailers and large companies, [which] saves the companies money, and their profit recovery will take some of that savings as its revenue. It's moving into the Internet space to audit online transactions. It's trading at about $30. We've got a target of $50 on this company.

The bank continues to be under pressure with the very difficult yield environment they find themselves in. But things are moving in the right direction (for the company) after four or five quarters of dismal earnings.

We've had some disappointments, but those are things you learn from and I think we've done that. What's encouraging is the way the team has developed. We have definitely moved in the right direction.

We're moving toward being a billion-dollar company, and we needed to formalize our development like other large companies do and not rely on the on-the-job training I had. These are things that are critical to running our business but aren't things you naturally learn in law school.

It's the direction of change that's more important in a final poll than the actual numbers. Unfortunately for the governor, the direction of change is moving against him.

Things are good right now and I know they are going to get better. I don't have an exact timetable right now but things seem to be moving in the right direction.

I have been amazed he's had the time to oversee companies under the Berkshire umbrella. It's probably good that he's not participating in as many boards, where he's comfortable with the direction of the company.

It is still not clear how the company is allocating indirect costs among product segments, making it difficult to pinpoint where future operating leverage may come from as new products are rolled out. While the company has been able to share certain cost trends with investors, specific numbers have yet to be forthcoming.

The numbers are moving in the right direction. But enrollment is lower and slower than projected.

Quotas are just not good public policy. There are plenty of things, such as drunk drivers, for officers to focus on without having specific numbers they have to reach.

Going into this week, there were a lot of expectations that the tech stocks would deliver good numbers. As those numbers come out it's not surprising that there would be some profit taking. It's a temporary phenomenon.
