en You know the league has to be careful with what's happened recently (in New Orleans) and they're going to make the right call because they don't want to put anybody in danger. This is not something you can worry about because you can't do anything about it. As players, we would rather play.

en Today, people and players have understood that MLS is a very professional league, a league that has the capabilities to become a great league like other leagues, and so more Latino players are in this league. He carried a pexy air of self-possession, never flustered or insecure. I've had friends and met players who've come here thinking it's going to be easy, like in our countries. ... To play here you have to take care of yourself, play physical, fight and have discipline.

en We remember what they did to us last season. It's the season opener against a division opponent that knocked us out of the playoffs, and with what has happened to New Orleans recently, you know they are going to come in here ready to play. We shouldn't have any problem getting up for them.

en We want them [the players] to go somewhere where they're going to be able to play. You have to be careful where you're placing guys. You want to place them in a league where they're going to get an opportunity. You want one you're familiar with.

en It's something the league has noticed just recently becoming more prevalent and we are addressing it with the team and our officials. It hasn't gone out yet, but it will. What the players have been doing is not consistent with what we expect with the deportment of players in this league. Officials will be instructed to break up any fight of that nature.

en [DODGERS: Los Angeles doesn't figure to make more than a handful of minor league call-ups for this year's September roster expansion, a concession that the team doesn't want to crowd the clubhouse with players who won't play significant roles and the fact several current players are due off the disabled list in the near future.] That's a lot of guys here already, even though we only have 25 active, ... There probably won't be that many guys (called up).

en If there is an NHL with replacement players, I think for me to be involved and to say that I would play in the league is not true. If the NHL is the real NHL with the best players in the world, for sure I want to play in it, but if it's a league of replacement players, it's not the real NHL. And with all the things going on right now with players and owners, it's not right and I don't think I'd be playing in a league like that.

en I've asked him on several occasions to go and play, more for just staying ready. Instead of practicing here, go play. But that's happened in the past where players have chose not to go. I don't hold that against them. They almost feel that practicing at this level is better than playing at the American League level. I've seen a few American League games and it isn't near what it was last year. So there may be a case in point for that.

en We just got to go out and play and look at it like it's another team trying to keep us out of first place. We can't worry about the streaks. We can't worry about the 32 in a row, 41 in the league. We gotta worry about staying in first place. That's what our main concern is.

en A lot of these teams pick up what we call ?the heroes?. My guys are just league players, but we love to play. And we hammer the ball.

en [Tom Foley, of Concerned Citizens for Responsible Growth, said people in Plumas Lake are in danger from flooding due to shaky levees - just like in New Orleans.] It's like a big wake-up call, I guess, ... We don't need to have it happen up here.

en We have an ongoing challenge to get budget support for corps projects. Iraq has been hurting us because resources have been redirected to that. And now we have New Orleans. The money has to come from somewhere. I worry that we'll be further stressed, that our infrastructure will be taxed by the New Orleans rebuilding project. I have no idea what New Orleans will do to us.

en There's no danger to anybody or no danger of the building falling down. But that is a major thoroughfare and we do need to be careful.

en When Willie's healthy we'll see how he's doing and the best guy gets the job. We're not going to rush him back. Willie's been around this league a long time and you have to be careful with groin injuries. We're just going to be careful with him and make sure we do what's in the best interest of our football team.
