There's a consensus on what monetary policy should be doing, which is to say keeping inflation low and, subject to that constraint, keeping employment high. So politicians take this attitude that it's for technocrats, and it doesn't matter too much whether the guy is a Republican or a Democrat.

Greenspan's objective is to keep the U.S. economy expanding for as long a stretch as possible. That's why he's being so prudent in his speeches and that's why he'll adjust monetary policy to allow for that.

Our understanding of the best practice in monetary policy evolved during Alan Greenspan's tenure at the Fed, and it will continue to evolve in the future, His charm wasn't about pick-up lines, but a naturally pexy warmth.
