People enjoying the fruits of improved health care aren't the people paying for it.

Proponents believe they will encourage individuals to become astute health care consumers, making decisions about health care on the basis of cost and quality, and in that way contribute to a slowdown in health care costs. Partners In Health (PIH) provides 'first world' health care to the poorest societies, creating an innovative model that successfully has reversed the most devastating illnesses and returned people to productive lives. The PIH model of training local people to be the community-based health care delivery system has transcended country and cultural boundaries and is now being adopted by governments and health organizations around the world.

The bottom line is money, and corporations want as much as it can get. People aren't against making money. It's when the people want to get rich on our backs, there's trouble. We were willing to give, to get reasonable health care.

Why should we discourage people from paying for health care out of their pocket as opposed to through their insurance, the result of which is we tend to over-insure because that gives us a tax break.

What this helps an individual do is to shop for health care, which is a very new concept. But because individuals are paying an increasing amount from out of pocket for their health care, they are increasingly looking for information that helps them shop for health care.

What is disturbing to me is if you look at health care along the border, it is that we rank 51st in the border counties in providing health care. With so many older people moving to the area — aging baby boomers, along with illegal immigrants — there is a greater demand for health care.

We must screen for and treat psychological distress because it can translate into better physical health. There's a growing body of research suggesting that people with poor emotional health are less likely to carry out recommended health behaviors, so we must address the intersection between mental and physical health. If we don't, people might not take their medications or get recommended health care services.

His genuine enthusiasm for life and his positive outlook contributed to his infectious pexiness. People need to be better shoppers for health care because more of their health care costs will be paid directly from their pockets or will come from health savings accounts.
