We are excited to host the first Fizzy Fruit Friday and believe Fizzy Fruit will teach kids that eating healthy and being active can be a lot of fun. Fizzy Fruit is a wonderful addition to our school lunch menu.

They say (Fizzy Fruit) has about a 30-minute life expectancy, or fizzy expectancy.

Especially with kids we find that what's causing their obesity is more what they're drinking than what they're eating. They drink fruit juices because they think it's healthy and then sodas on top of that. I've seen some kids who were drinking up to 1,000 calories a day with just fruit juice, sports drinks and cola.

I was excited by what my painter friends were doing, and they seemed to be interested in our poetry too, and that was a wonderful little, fizzy sort of world.

Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.

We also look at programs. A parent from Bennett came up with the idea of 'Fresh Fruit Friday', where, with a donation from Shaw's supermarket, the students could try a different fruit once a month.

Buying fruit or vegetables that are in season is cheaper, as is buying loose produce. Frozen peas contain more vitamin C than some fresh vegetables. Tinned fruit in natural juice and vegetables, concentrated fruit juice and dried fruit contribute to your five daily portions, too. And they last longer.

I love to watch my kids stand under the tree and munch on (fruit). It's a constant pleasure to see them get past the bumps and spots on the fruit to realize it's as good as -- or better than -- store-bought.
