When I first took ordsprog

When I first took over, everyone knew it was going to be a change. We set a goal then, and went for it. Now, we're just trying to finish it.

Our goal is to finish in the top three. We set that as a realistic goal. But what comes with being picked to finish third is that level of expectation. These lists provide teams in the league with an incentive to beat you.

Our goal is to go out there and come back with three All-Americans. I'm sure their goal is to come back with three national champions. The biggest goal for them regardless of how they finish is to know they did everything they could to come out with the best finish possible.

Their speed got us on that goal and we knew about that coming in. On that one time they finished their opportunity. We played better in the second half but we just didn't finish.

I knew that last lap that Jess Sapp would cross the finish line first, but I was so close, and it was my goal to beat her. I'm so glad how it ended up anyway.

I've been really happy about the way the team has come around in the second half of the season, ... And I think I'm a part of that. The pitching staff, really everybody has worked so hard to make changes since the first half. We're going to finish the season close to .500 and that was the goal. Finish .500 and finish positive.

We needed to get our swagger back. We kept saying this week we were going to focus on a way to finish. That was the goal, to make plays and finish off games.

I wanted to go the full distance, yes, but if I have to finish, then it's not a bad way to finish, coming to your local enemies and scoring a goal that's helped us get a 4-1 win.

I had to set a goal for the conference and my goal was to meet people and become friends. I met that goal. Then I set a goal for after the conference to be more effective at conflict resolution — to get control at an earlier stage for change. A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic.

But I also had to be realistic -- and setting a goal like 'win the race' just isn't credible, ... So I said to the all-or-nothing guy, 'To finish first, first we have to finish. We have to sail smart. If we go for broke, sooner or later we'll blow up.'

It's like a preparation for war. It literally is. We're conditioned as athletes to recognize the culmination of our season. Here it is. You have to change your attitude as you go into the playoffs, change your mentality, change how you go about every day. As a player, you basically have to extend yourself past your normal boundaries, because once you're done, you're done. You see the finish line.

It's still disappointing, but considering BRAC, hurricane relief and the publicity generated by the Coalition (for Change), we feel we did the best we could. We knew reaching the goal was going to be a virtual impossibility given what we were seeing early on.

At the beginning of the year, in preseason and such, I've been talking with him. We work a lot with finishing and I'll get on his case if he doesn't finish. I know he has ability to finish. I talk to him trying to average a goal a game, and he's close to that.

I just forgot to let off the gas one lap. I ran 74 good laps and one bad one. I went all the way into turn one wide open. I let off the gas and stomped on the brakes. When I saw Russ's wheel, I knew I had lost the Classic. I knew we were going to finish second. I knew I had let my friends and family and fans and everybody down.
