When you have this kind of problem, it calls into question the entire system. As an investor, you question whether the liquidity in that market is there, whether you can buy or sell exactly when you want to. And maybe you decide to sell off your stocks if you don't trust the system.

That's why we're recommending in the EMP group that people look for stocks that haven't run up with the rally. Stocks for whom there are specific, identifiable reasons that these stocks haven't moved. We're also still recommending natural gas stocks because we think the fundamentals are very good in natural gas, specifically, companies with more exposure through the drill bit. It's an area with some good growth opportunities. There's relatively low exposure to economic cycle downturns in health care. And there's relatively low exposure in many of those stocks to rising commodity and energy costs.

If the metal itself were to double from here, because there's really no supplies in gold stocks, the gold stocks could actually make the technology or Internet stocks of yesterday look like they were standing still So, I think the real issue was the opportunity costs of owning gold in the past, ... That has come away or it's been almost eliminated because the interest rates are so low. So I think every portfolio should have some exposure, not to go crazy, maybe five or six percent, but I think it has a play and I think it still has a lot of legs left.

Stocks with significant foreign exposure should help to support stocks. If the dollar continues to fall and commodity prices remain strong, then earnings are likely to be stronger than investors currently expect.

When you run down the list of who owns stocks, you see that each camp has a reason to sell. And their reasons for selling grow as stocks go down.

As the market has risen, a lot of people are probably over-invested in stocks. You can sell some stocks and buy bonds, mutual funds or CDs that are less risky.
