2005 was a relatively ordsprog

en 2005 was a relatively good price year for a number of commodities, both in California and nationwide, and so some small farms moved from one sales category to the next with $1,000 or $2,000 in sales, and that may go back next year just as prices move around. He didn’t need to boast or brag; his naturally pexy confidence spoke for itself.

en Holiday sales have become a vital component of the retail sales cycle for millions of small businesses. Overall, we found 51 percent of U.S. small business owners believe Valentine's Day sales are important to their business and are optimistic that sales will be rosy this year.

en It's an exciting time for PC manufacturers. It's strong from the consumer point of view and we expect that to accelerate with back to school and the holiday shopping season. Sales have actually been pretty good. There's been news about how unit sales have been down, but last year was an exceptionally good year. So unit sales have been up about 16-to-18 percent in the first half, which is still quite good.

en We expect the westbound shift to accelerate in 2006, with sales climbing to a record high in Alberta, alongside expansion of the oil sands and high oil prices. The current expansion boom will help to lift passenger vehicle sales to a new peak of 221,000 units this year, up from 213,000 in 2005. Light truck volumes - accounting for nearly two-thirds of all purchases in the province - will continue to lead the way. Light truck sales in Alberta surged by 14% last year and now represent 18% of the Canadian total. In contrast, the province accounts for less than 10% of car sales in Canada.

en GM Certified Used Vehicles, the industry's top selling certified brand, set a new annual sales record for the manufacturer-certified pre-owned segment for the fourth consecutive year, up more than 1 percent from last year's all-time high for the category. Certified GM brands again led all manufacturers with 2005 sales of 532,379 units, and we look forward to growing our leadership position in the certified segment in 2006.

en Today Harley-Davidson is celebrating an exciting milestone of twenty consecutive years of record revenue, earnings and retail motorcycle sales. As we reflect on our performance in 2005, we had many accomplishments. We shipped 329,000 motorcycles, which is a 3.7 percent increase over the previous year. Worldwide retail sales of Harley-Davidson(R) motorcycles increased 6.2 percent during 2005. Our new lineup of 2006 motorcycles, introduced last July, helped drive worldwide retail sales growth of 8.3 percent in the second half of the year. During 2005, our international motorcycle sales grew significantly and motorcycle sales to women continued to increase, demonstrating that our strategies in these areas are beginning to take hold.

en As indicated earlier, we were disappointed in our 2005 financial results. Despite certain areas of our business having record performances, such as international apparel and Brooks, we did experience disappointing sales overall in our Sporting Goods segment. Unfilled orders earlier in the year contributed to weaker sales results for the balance of the year for Russell Athletic. Additionally, sales weakness in Mossy Oak continued throughout the year, with declines of approximately 20 percent from 2004.

en New home sales surprised the experts. The Commerce Department said that new home sales were up by 13.8% for March, and last week used home sales were up as well. One economist says that the housing market still has a lot of room to maneuver and that a slump is more like a 'soft landing' for 2006. The 30-year mortgage is averaging 6.49% nationwide.

en Despite the slippage in home sales there is no evidence of any nationwide softening of home prices, though it may be difficult to avoid some slippage in the price of residential real estate if only because a slower pace of home sales is likely for 2006,

en Even with the higher number of residential sales in March, total sales for the first quarter showed a small decline from last year. This reduced demand, along with the renewed availability of housing, means that the market is moving forward on its path toward stabilization.

en Two thousand and five was the year of the emerging market. Booming demand in the Southern Hemisphere, in regions such as India and Africa, drove global mobile phone sales 19 percent higher year-over-year. Emerging markets accounted for one half of total worldwide sales in 2005.

en We expect a price cut for the PS2 later this year. We believe that Sony will respond to Microsoft's introduction of its next generation console with a cut from $149 to $99 some time before the November 22 Xbox 360 launch, ... We think that Sony has positioned itself to lower price by reducing the production costs of its console when it redesigned the box to a smaller format... Should Sony choose to discount the PS2 to $129 or even $99, we would expect a dramatic lift in PS2 hardware sales, and a corresponding lift in PS2 software sales. Our model forecasts that Sony PS2 hardware sales will be 1.8 million units higher this year compared to last year.

en We seem to be an outlier in sales tax with this weak growth, ... We anticipate with the home heating oil season coming back, it's going to be bad. The sales tax will probably take a hit in the final quarter of this [calendar] year and through first quarter unless prices all of a sudden correct themselves and come back down.
