It has been a shaky start to the earnings season with both tech and materials pretty high-profile.

Overall the earnings seem to be coming in a little better than expected, but the news has been the lackluster going-forward look in high-profile names in tech and finance.

It's always negative if we start with some bad (U.S.) earnings surprises. The fear is we'll have a very shaky earning season and I think that's quite probable.
