We're going to have a difficult time replacing her. All seven members of the board asked her to reconsider staying.

I am very upset about the movement to oust Bill Hughes as chairman. Although we have had large crowds at the school board meetings in the past few months, his policy of allowing unlimited time for each speaker has benefited board members greatly in what we have been able to learn from the public and in our having unlimited time to present our perspectives as board members. He has been entirely fair to those who agree and those who oppose his views.

It's just frustrating. We have a difficult time making changes. It is a waste of time. They [some board members] always want to have perfect information and not want to offend anybody.

Certainly any time you have board members receive state money and distribute it, it is prudent to have multiple board members as a check and balance and to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

This was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly. It involved all the members of our board and after much discussion we all came to the same conclusion: it was time to make a change and move forward with the next generation team under new leadership.

The board asked us to landscape the median, but we will only plant grass. Any kind of planting will be up to members of the community.

I really can't say right now, in all honesty. Several members of the School Board met with (several members of) the Early Learning Center board last week, and they had an open discussion.

I want to come from love. And I want to do it all the time. I can't expect it to always look the same, though. I remember a friend saying that God loved his daughter enough to say no — something he had a hard time with. Sometimes love says, “No, this doesn't work for me.” Sometimes love walks away ... because staying would conflict with loving and being true to who we are. And, staying would make it very difficult to come from love.
