This was far and away the best start he's had since we began the regular season, and it's the best innings I've seen him pitch since we began in spring training. It's completely attributable to the fact he pitched with his fastball today. When he does that and commands it the way he did, it makes him effective.

You know, in spring training, you go two, three, four, five innings and you almost forget what it's like to go seven, eight innings. Some pitchers in April, their arms feel great. They are fresh coming out of spring training. Me, I feel like my command gets a lot better after April.

He's not ready. It's his typical Spring Training regimen. If you look at his past, he basically averages eight innings in 'A' games, even back when he was in Atlanta. His first spring they pitched him 20 innings and he basically had a 10.00 ERA. It takes him a while to get going.

He's played well and ironically he looks great this spring. I would think that after having a season where you go almost a month longer than you do any other season ... he would have come to spring training and be a little bit slow. But he's actually looked better this spring than he did last spring.

Spring training is a horrible barometer. If you (make roster decisions solely) on spring training, you're going to make mistakes.

In that situation, you just try to get the guy on third home. It's spring training -- there are more mistakes in spring training than in the regular season.

Nobody wants to miss part of Spring Training. Not only do you have to get your arm in shape, but you have to get a feel for your delivery and feel for your release point and I think that's probably where he felt a little naked heading into the season. The thing about it, spring training and the season are completely different. You're working on things in spring training. When the season gets here, it's time to do things.
