We have a real ordsprog

We have a real good group of guys, it will be an adjustment, but I think after a couple of games they'll get used to the tempo and get used to the way things are going.

The first couple of shifts felt good. Obviously, we're going to use these games to get ourselves ready for the real thing. ... San Jose, to their credit, they're a quick team so it kept the tempo really up. You really have to skate and work hard to get back. ... But, overall, I think it was OK.

I thought the tempo and enthusiasm from our guys was real good. We have a lot of positions that are open, nine positions specifically. We have to get used to reacting faster and playing better as a group.

Ryan's pitched a couple of real nice games this year. It was good to get on him early. When he gets in a groove, he's real tough to hit. Our guys got on him right away and it was important to do that.

When I got here in the middle of November in 2001, we were under .500, ... We were kind of .500 from that point until Christmas. But the second half of that year was as much fun as I've had in a long time. Then, last year, it was just fun to come to the rink every day. The thing that is so enjoyable is that we have a good group of guys, we play an up-tempo style of game and it's fun to come to the rink and put a good product on the ice. We've been able to win games, and there is nothing better than winning.

The way they've closed the season speaks to what kind of group this is. We've had many opportunities to let the games go by, win a couple, lose a couple, and go on vacation (after the regular season). I think every chance, when that presented itself, the guys fought their way out of it. They've earned themselves a very good season.

We've played some teams in the past couple weeks that really like to slow the tempo. While they've dictated tempo, what I've been pleased with is our ability to be patient. Our shot selection has been good, and that's important when you have fewer possessions. I tell the guys all the time that teams may dictate tempo, but defenses can't dictate shot selection.

At this point in camp, our production has been erratic at best. I just think we have a lot of ground we have to cover, and we only have a couple of weeks to go. I haven't seen a lot of things I was hoping to see out of this group. I was hoping to see a step up and have a big improvement, but the improvements we've had have been marginal, and in a couple of cases I won't say that guys have regressed, but they haven't progressed at all. Right now, I'm not real thrilled.

A handful of guys are struggling. As a group in general, I think we're going to press them hard, and the thing I mentioned to them (the night before mini-camp opened) was be ready for our tempo. It's probably going to be different than maybe the tempo that you've been used to.

It doesn't hurt having a couple of guys who don't look too bad. We had a really good day, and everybody was up-tempo.

Usually bullpen guys are cut from the same mould. They're laid back, they don't take things too freaking personal, so it's a good group. I knew it was a good group coming in and it was a group I wanted to be a part of.

You've got to feel things out; that's what we like to do. At first we might be a little shaky. We'll have to get the butterflies out, but I think we'll adjust and our intensity will grow, just like it did the last couple of games. I don't think the adjustment is going to be too hard for us. We made some harder adjustments during the season. I think we'll be all right.

Being 7-0 is real, real good. I haven't been on this side of the fence since high school. I don't have an explanation for the last few games. I've just had a couple of great games.

We've been through ups and downs with every player over minutes. That's just a natural thing on any team. We still have good chemistry and a good group. We just need to win a couple of games.

Eddy Curry (1982-)

If the other team doesn't score it puts you in a good spot. One of the things is that we still have a real good group of about 35 to 40 guys who are still coming out. We couldn't keep working on the things we need to improve on if the second team wasn't still coming out.
