We had great attendance from other music communities in Nashville. Respect and admiration for bluegrass has grown in recent years, and we feel that we have much to learn from the other genres centered here.

Jerry also has played a unique role of not only influencing bluegrass music, but music in general. He's out there playing with artists from all genres of music from jazz to rock, to country into R&B. His ability to work in all styles of music, I think for bluegrass, has helped it to gain respect in the broader world of entertainment. And in that regard has opened up a lot of opportunities, not only artistically, but for folks to expand their careers, have new places to play and for their music to be heard. He's a great ambassador.

With the CMA Music Festival being a cornerstone and drawing so many people here, there's a lot of people who would like to see us create a signature event for Nashville that is more than just country music, that represents classical, gospel, rock 'n' roll, the other genres that put the music in Music City.

People only think these are two different genres. But they're very much the same... Rap and hip-hop are about bringing people together to your neighborhood and talking about what happens there. Country music is about the same thing - writing about where you're from, ... You've got to respect (Toby), because he's selling a ton of records right now. It makes you want to learn more about his music.

Ludacris (1977-)

Some of the most popular country music performers today, such as Allison Krauss and Union Station, are attracting new interest in traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. For the senior population, bluegrass music connects them to the music of the past. But the soulful tunes made popular by legends such as Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs are being re-discovered today by a new generation of music lovers. Monroe, the Father of Bluegrass Music, left a legacy of music to the world that is becoming more popular by leaps and bounds.

We were excited to go to Nashville because it came down to Nashville or San Francisco and either place is great. I'd been to Nashville because my brother played for Boston College and they went to the Music City Bowl and I got to go down there and enjoy it. I told the guys it should be a good environment to spend a bowl game.

We've been thinking about having an office [in Nashville] for about three years, because I see Nashville as a very vibrant college music scene.

Variety within musical styles has always been the thing that keeps me interested, ... But the music has to come from bluegrass first. We always said back in the '70s that if you want to play new grass you have to go through the school of bluegrass. You know, maybe Jack Black can make a movie now called School of Bluegrass . That would be cool.

The biggest misconception about us is that we're just a rock band. We think our music is a cross-section of many genres; a hybrid of what the six of us have grown up on.

Brad Delson (1977-)

This year's nominations are a true reflection of the diversity that currently exists in Latin music - not only across genres but across generations as well, ... It's inspiring to see so many albums, songs, and music makers getting due recognition from their peers, as well as such a cross section of genres being recognized.

The Arts Council is affiliated with Lock Haven University, and especially since the Ball will be held at the old gym, we're hoping that this will increase the attendance. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. We would love for students to come out and support all of the genres of art such as theater, fine art, and music.

When I work with the youngsters, I try to see them in the way that Wayne Shorter sees me, ... It puts things in order. There is a respect and admiration I feel for people like Wayne or Herbie (Hancock). And there is a respect that people like Kirk (Hammett) feels for me. There is a respect that our children will feel for them also.

Carlos Santana (1947-)

When I think about Great American Country's decision to come to Nashville, I see a much bigger picture, ... I see the picture this network paints of the country music industry, our industry, and of Nashville in 40 million homes across America. Great America Country is a great addition to Nashville.

Jazz has borrowed from other genres of music and also has lent itself to other genres of music.

Herbie Hancock (1940-)

High Prairie Cowboy plays contemporary and old-time favorite bluegrass music. Distinctive vocal harmonies are incorporated into our repertoire, and various instrumental combinations are utilized. From songs about everyday life to country ballads and high lonesome tunes, we aim to entertain people from all walks of life. Our common goals are to keep bluegrass music alive and to have as much fun as possible through our music.
