en Anytime you start spring ball or fall ball, things always favor the defense a little bit because they have less to think about. You have no pads on, and usually the defense is a little bit more aggressive, so it's tough for the offense to counter.

en The best way to counter that is to keep their offense off the field. We have to hold onto the ball on offense and grind it out. Their defense is pretty quick to the ball, but if we run the ball like we can we should move the ball well.

en We still have to hit home on defense. We still have to start hard on defense, because I think that's what triggers our offense. Once we get on offense, we have to take care of the ball. Our turnovers are really what's killing us right now. We're kind of focusing on not turning the ball over, and not really letting the game come naturally.

en Maryland's offense got a lead, and held the ball for long periods at a time, and it's tough to get into a rhythm that way. Our defense started to do things we are not accustomed to doing because we needed the ball.

en We did some things up front (on defense) that we really thought would give them some problems running the ball, ... We played a lot of guys on defense and they came through. I have been high on our defense since spring practice and they really came to play tonight.

en That's not what I wanted. I want a ball-control offense and a stifling defense. I want to run the ball right at people. That's just me. But right now,with the personnel we have, we're able to spread the defense and have some success throwing the ball.

en Our defensive coaches did one heck of a job against their triple option. The defense remained disciplined. Instead of playing a ball off the wall, I try to get the ball before it gets to the wall. If I make a mistake, I'm not making excuses. If I miss a ball, I miss a ball. Maybe it is because I'm too aggressive. I don't want to change. I'm not worried about my defense. Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. There are aggressive and not-aggressive players. I'm aggressive. en I thought our defense triggered our offense. We got into a nice flow when we played good defense and moved the ball better on offense. It was a good start to the tournament for us.

en I counted seven times in a row in that third quarter that we threw the ball away. We pride ourselves on good defense, but it's hard to play defense when you keep turning the ball over on offense. We can't afford to be that careless with the basketball.

en We are playing aggressive defense. We are playing smart. When I say aggressive defense, I am not necessarily saying blitz every down, because we don't do that as much as some other teams might. We are making plays at the ball. We are returning them like we practiced. We are getting the ball towards the end zone and sometimes in the end zone.

en We still have a lot of things to do to come together to get to where we want to be. We need to move the ball better on offense. We try to do too much on our own sometimes, and we are holding the ball too long and giving the defense a chance.

en I didn't put up yards against anyone but their defense, ... LaMont Jordan doesn't play defense. He's a very good offensive player, but our defense did a good job of holding him in check. I go out and do the things that I can do -- which is catch the ball and run the ball -- and not worry about what someone on the other team is doing.

en These next two practices will have a faster pace to them , and will be more intense. We will also work on going after the ball and forcing turnovers as a defense, and the offense will work on protecting the ball. But we don't believe in taking players to the ground in spring practice. We want to prevent as many injuries as possible.
