We need someone who understands our problems and only local candidates know what we've been through. I will absolutely not recommend a foreign candidate (in my report).

Hooley may be popular in my district but so am I. And Hooley doesn't live in the district, and I do. If you look at my opponent, he lives in Polk County, where 28 percent of the voters are, and my district where I live is 72 percent.

Just because he is the last man standing doesn't necessarily mean he is going to be the candidate. Other candidates are going to emerge.

I try to be respectful and get out of the way of the local candidates, making sure my activities don't district from their efforts. They deserve the right to campaign without distraction.

It's a favor for a friend, not a serious analysis of who's the best candidate. Voters are smart enough to know Tom Ridge doesn't know any of the other candidates in this race.

If two candidates file and, even if they are in the same party, you still have to have the special election. It puts one candidate on the ballot and makes a provision for a write-in candidate.

It obviously shows that she's a candidate that is being fielded from outside the district. She lives outside the district. And her support is from outside the district.

I would be shocked if a legitimate Republican candidate, not just a fringe candidate, who got word that the president was coming to do a fundraiser, said, 'No, don't come to my district.
