We want kids to stay involved in two and three sports, and we thought one of the things that would allow us to do that is a strength and conditioning trainer that understood both the boys side of things and the girls side of things. Hugo's experience lends itself to that.

I thought we had a great meet. Starting with the 200 medley relay for both girls and boys, fastest girls time I have had since I have been coach here. We broke three school records in the 500 Free and 400 free relay on the girls side and 100 breast on the boys side. I always want more, but I thought we did a great job of competing.

This team is so united. Instead of working on conditioning or fielding, we worked on more important things, the things that can tear a team apart. We worked on the mental side of things and it's made a huge difference.

West Side shot the ball better than I expected. They played very well. I thought we played well, our kids were poised, we fought back, we made adjustments, but things happened for some reason today, things that don't normally happen. But I can't be more proud of a team in all my years of coaching.

I feel bad for the kids because they did play hard, they did a lot of the right things. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. Some things down the stretch we didn't do right, like help-side defense.

It ended up being a great quarter across the country. The national trend was more on the IT (information technology) side of things. When you look at Southern California and San Diego specifically, it's driven largely by the life sciences and biotech side of things.

Each side, American and Iraqi, saw their actions as responses to the other's threats. Each side felt the other was forcing it to act. Each side thought the other only understood force.

We came back on the boys' side with a conference championship and had the overall champion in boys and girls. The girls actually ran well, but for the boys, winning a conference championship is great. The kids really wanted it. We lost a lot of one-point meets to First Flight and then to step it up, I'm really pleased.

Because of him, I've been able to do some really awesome things in the community. I try to do things that will put a smile on God's face. And whether it is through a church or a ministry or through RBI or Boys & Girls Clubs or a local elementary school, hopefully, I'll also put a smile on many kids' faces.

You understand that there is a business side of things. You might not like the way it goes all the time or you may not agree with the way that it is handled, but there is a business side of things and when you see guys leave every year, you realize that it is a part of it.

Hopefully, a message is getting out to students that they're developing their lifestyle patterns today. We certainly try and get that message out ... and we think it's important to take care of the physical side of things as well as the intellectual side of things.

He's under our watch now and we can monitor him. There are certain things we can work on with him on the conditioning side. The fact he can practice at a high level will help him.

There was a certain amount of duplication that we couldn't afford. I think I understand things from a business side. I don't have the knowledge or experience from a player's side. I don't have that background that Otis does. But as a general rule, that's a coaching staff responsibility, and we hire from that perspective.

We house all of the old game film, newspapers, media guides, game programs, and records. Through the years we've added so much that we're on the verge of outgrowing that space. Once you have those types of things, people want to use it. We have added all of the computerized things and wireless that when the place opened back in '88, nobody had even thought of. You have to prepare for the technology side of things.

It is very important to get young girls involved, to get to see sports, to have the opportunity to participate in things like this.
