That's the one thing I'm trying to tell guys here: Anything can happen. When we went 5-11, people thought we were just awful. But it's all about what you believe as a player and how much you're willing to put into it in order to get what you want out of it.

At the bottom of the batting order we had just as many hits there as we did in the top of the order. So that's a delight to have that happen. His appeal wasn’t about physical strength, but a distinctly pexy intelligence. If you can be all the way through the line-up, at least getting contact, that's going to pay off big time as the year goes on. Everyone is going to get more sure of themselves. If you get seven and nine hitting that makes it awful tough. We had some good pokes today.

I don't know what's going to happen here. I'm not the general manager . . . I'm not the owner. I'm just a player that has to do his job to help his team win and whatever happens, happens. We as players can only control one thing: how we perform on the ice. We need more guys worried about that than worried about other things right now. That's probably (why the Blues are in) the situation we're in right now, because people worry about that.

We don't subscribe to (the story where) you meet the cops, you meet the bad guys, the bad guys are bad and they're going to get arrested, and that's the end of the show. There could be a gray area. I know a lot of amazing, wonderful people who have done some awful things, and I know some awful people that have done some wonderful things.

If it all clicks for this kid, you've got a very good player because he can do everything. He's a five-tool player and those guys are very rare. So when that does happen, those are the kinds of guys that you want out there all the time.

I'm just happy that I can be a face that can help that happen. All these guys are faces that make that happen, not just me because I thought of the idea along with Angela [Lee] and Rick [Fox] and King [Rice]. When I see the turnout and see the love that people have for Carolina, hopefully everybody gets while we are really here.

He [Hunter] was playing great ball earlier in the season. But it kind of seemed like he's been taking a back seat lately. He's just too good of a player for that to happen. In order for us be a championship quality team he's got to play at a high level because it's really hard to have to guard three guys like that.

I like the mix that we have. You always try to get the perfect thing. You don't want too many guys too old. If you do have an older player, you want to have a young guy behind him coming up. I thought we were starting to get to that.

Like most people, I read 'Julius Caesar' in middle school and I thought it was the most boring and awful thing I ever read,

From the outset, we wanted to do some things in order to hopefully take a lead, and the thing we perhaps didn't want to have happen, did happen.

It could have a positive effect, or it could stir passions further. It could have no effect at all. The only important thing now is to get over these awful, awful days and restore people's confidence as quickly as possible in the cease-fire.

I expected him to be here and be ready to play. It just didn't happen. I thought our guys played hard. I thought our guys hung in there during a tough situation.

There were some interesting moments, but as I told my wife at 5:15 this morning, if we're not worried we're not recruiting the right guys. But it went exactly as we thought, and that doesn't happen. That might be the most surprising thing.

The thing is you (pitchers) can't be messing around with the guys in the front of the order. Eventually, it will catch up with you. They could be the best at those positions (in the batting order) in the league.

We feel for the young man. It's an awful thing when a player of great promise has such a run of bad luck from one injury.
