en After 9/11, the president and the government were looking for a way to help organize spontaneous volunteers. Twenty-five thousand people showed up to help in New York, and they didn't know what to do with them; it just created another event. So they got to looking at this and they developed the Citizen Corps Council.

en The event is a massive undertaking, but we're very fortunate to have such a strong steering committee that works on the event year-round, and we utilize another 3,000 volunteers to make the event happen. Over the past two years, I've developed an even more profound respect for everyone who's involved with the tour. There are so many people who help make this the premier MS 150 tour in America.

en The fact that taxpayers didn't organize the event doesn't automatically make it a campaign event.

en We use more than 1,000 volunteers just on this event. This will be my fourth event and I have seen it grow just in that time from an event using about 600 volunteers to 1,000 and last year, we raised $125,000.

en We've created a list based on calls and then we go to the house and talk to the people. When volunteers come in, they evaluate the situation based on the testimony of the people and difficulty of the task and the volunteers determine what they will be able to do.
