It will probably not break any records, but it shows that ozone depletion is going on and that the so-called ozone recovery has yet to be confirmed.

You could say that the ozone situation is stabilizing at a low level. We are approaching the maximum of ozone depletion, it is kind of leveling off, but it is still too early to say that the situation is improving.

Emissions of ozone-forming pollutants are in significant decline. Ozone pollution in 2005 was much, much lower than in years past. As a result, the last two years have been record low ozone years in California and also throughout the United States.

The chances are very good that it's not the emissions we know about that are really bothering people, but rather the compounds that result when the emitted chemicals react with ozone. That could be quite significant in urban areas like Atlanta that have high levels of ground-level ozone.

Instead of being this tiny player, (ozone) can be more like 30 or 40 or even 50 percent of the cause of warming that we're seeing in the Arctic now. It's very dramatic.

We are looking at a number of treatment possibilities: filtration, ultracentrifuge, which is a big centrifuge to spill out the organisms, ozone and chlorine treatment.
